Hi almosters
An early morning trip in Al Qudra area, this area used to be a very nice area for fresh newbies where we used to practice soft sand, small arches and straight crests. Unfortunately, the area is now full if bushes, we barely managed to find a track for our cars.
I was assigned to support Barish convoy and we were accompanied by Abu Salem where the first one hour was challenging for everyone, we had to do multiple recoveries and then out to the easy area.
Everyone did well, communication is an area for improvement.
See you soon.

Oryx eyes ... who can resist the beauty
ALMOST is not solely dedicated to off-roading; it also carries a greater mission — to raise awareness about the rich wildlife of the UAE and to highlight the remarkable diversity of unique species that inhabit its vast and breathtaking deserts.
As usual, we began our day early to arrive at the meeting point on time — a reflection of the club’s core values of self-discipline and mutual respect among its members. At our group gathering spot (petrol station), we fueled our vehicles with petrol and our spirits with coffee @Haidy79 @Mostafa @ahmed77moharem and luckly we meet @AhmadHassan.
Upon arriving at the meeting point, we received an engaging and informative briefing by the organizer, the passionate marshal @presa about the area, including the Oryx breeding center — a testament to the UAE's remarkable efforts in preserving this beautiful species and its surrounding natural lakes. Following the briefing, we were divided into two convoys based on experience levels. As newbies, we joined Convoy 2, led by @Barish with @brett as SL and @Ehab @AhmadHassan @Mpodroid as support team, with usual care and overall guidance of the amazing man @alshamsi_m.
The track was highly technical, designed to enhance our learning experience by deepening our skills and understanding. It emphasized personal growth in key areas such as communication, maintaining safe distances, managing speed and momentum, and effectively analyzing the terrain At a certain point @alshamsi_m decided to have quick stop for short session to correct our mistakes and to highlight area for improvement.
The weather was manageable, with a temperature of 29°C accompanied by light winds. However, the high humidity made the heat feel more intense. We continued on to the endpoint, making a brief stop by the lakes to take in the scenic views and admire the stunning birds.
finally, we reached end point safely with big smile on our faces and a deep message that; Off-roading with ALMOST is only part of the journey. We're driven by a passion to shine a light on the UAE’s lesser-known natural treasures — the unique wildlife and delicate ecosystems that exist only in its vast deserts.
Thank you all ALMOST

That was a complicated drive ... let's start from the beginning.
2 convoys, Barish leading the 1st one with the support of Bu Salem and Ehab. Brett, Marco and Ahmad from the intermediate Team.
I was allocated to Presa's convoy (organising Marshall) with the Support of Carlos. 3 intermediates with us, Pavan, Hisham & Moustafa (the one that everyone wants in their convoy, mainly in summer).
Al Qudra ... but the tricky chain of Al Qudra that has become even harder to negotiate with the increasing number of bushes and vegetation. I must admit I love this little patch of the UAE desert ... you always know that you are going to get some action there.
Within 5min drive several 2nd tries, rescues, ... we had not covered 500m of the chain and already we lost one of the interm due to some noise in the car, I had to take one car out and assist in 3-4 rescues ... to make matters harder we found the 3 members that were late and our convoy became even longer with less interm support.
In the convoy we had members with very different levels of experience, to those who struggled the most ... Presa told you in the break, 10more drives with the club and you will see how that area looks & feels completely different to you.
Main areas to improve:
- Radio communication - long convoy on technical area needs to communicate better if we want the drive to flow.
- Stops - when you stop in the convoy (because there is a 2nd try, recovery, ...) do it always keeping in mind that you and the cars around you will need to move again!!!, the amount of times we ended up with 2nd tries after the convoy stopped for a recovery was crazy, look around and stop in a safe position.
- Momentum is key, you need to keep your car moving from position to position, look at the obstacle ahead of you and anticipate the power that is going to be needed.
- Do not commit to moving forward unless you can see the car ahead has clear the next "safe position", always think, what if he/she has a 2nd try or stuck?, do I have a place where I can safely stop?
2nd part of the drive after the break and Moustafa's watermelon was easier, still a lot of vegetation in that area of the desert that has changed dramatically in recent years.
Many thanks to Danillo for organising the drive, Bu Salem and Barish for joining to make the 2 convoys possible, my fellow explorers and interm for the support as well as all the members that joined this very well attended drive.
See you on the sand soon.

Hi Almosters, we had a great morning in the desert!
We started earlier, to avoid the heat and drove around Al Qudra, to see some oryx and gazelles.
@Barish led a convoy, with @alshamsi_m and @Ehab floating.
I led the other convoy with @Carlos , @David and Zeyad floating.
With 15-min of drive we found 3 lost members... they didnt follow the instruction on the points to follow the meeting point, and end-up in a small chain of soft sand, what made difficult for them to reach the meeting point in time.
The 1st area had a small pack of soft dunes, just at the start of the drive, that is technical and serves to evaluate your skills over driving at soft sand... we did about 2-3km on the area, what was less than half of it, within 1h30... I stop counting after the 10th stuck, with a popout and several 2nd tries... so we decided to move towards the next area, since I was afraid of having the intermediates and explorers resigning the support role
We had a great 15-min gathering, sponsored by @Mustafa with a delicious watermellon... mental note: always have him on my convoy
After another 1h00-1h30 of driving we reach Al Qudra Stores, where we inflated and head home!
I am waiting for the trip report from my convoy members!

Hello everyone,
Our drive was in a very well known area which we didnt visit since some time. Qudra is known as lakes, oryxes and small to mid-size dunes for all nature enthisiasts.
We started driving after a comprehensive briefing from our organizer Presa and Bu Salem also mentioned that the drive will be the drive of bushes, ditches and soft sand; we entered the sand and surprises started to hit, support team did an amazing job there and then we exitted and entered the bushes area towards our end point; if you can not avoid sth, then better to use it to your advantage.
We have identified sand dunes from far and put our direction to those dunes using bushes as our connection paths; we used the area to train our members for articulation, quick decision and agility management. We did straight crests and arches as well on those sand dunes to practice momentum over bumps, drops with bushes and gravity management in soft sand arches.
We stopped by a lake for a short break, shared some snacks and water, captured the moment and reached to our end point in Last Exit. Thanks to support team for a flawless drive in a difficult terrain under those weather conditions.
Keep in mind; chg is good if you improve.
See you next time.

Dear Almosters
It was a nice change to drive to the meeting point in Al Qudra. It was the same meeting point as my CM drive many years ago. Back then it was clean dunes, now so much of it has changed to bushes – more on that later.
Once everyone arrived the Briefing was done by the organizing Marshal @presa with some additional notes from our Founder @alshamsi_m . It was a large group of Newbies, so it was split into 2 convoys one to be led by @presa and the other by The General himself @Barish
There was plenty of support for both convoys with our newly appointed 4 Star Explorers @Ehab @CARLOSS and @David plus Intermediates
I was appointed to @Barish Convoy as 2nd lead – which is a challenge in itself following The General in that Jeep that is extremely nimble in the technical areas and seems to float over the soft patches, it turns on a dime so following in an FJ not always an easy task !
So off we headed in the opposite direction to @presa convoy. We had @Ahmad mid convoy for recoveries, @mpodroid sweeping, @Ehab floating along with @alshamsi_m keeping a watchful eye on everyone.
What a start! we hit the technical area before anyone had time to wonder what the day would bring. Within minutes we were having 2nd tries all through the convoy. Then within only maybe 5min over the radio came the instruction – Brett wait Don’t follow! in the meantime the convoy behind us came to a halt, somehow just to my left I had a car struggling and stuck in a V ditch in very soft sand. The next car back was also stuck in very soft sand. The General doubled back and decided to take a different line. But alas I was only to head straight into the soft patch before the slight climb and drop to the other side of the dune – YEP I got stuck in the soft stuff and with another car stuck now directly behind me the only solution was a pull from the front, from the other side of the crest by @Ehab . I was quickly recovered to the other side of the dune but now stuck in the V and soft sand on the other side! detached from @Ehab I managed to crawl out of the stuck position using 4L and Diff lock. I positioned myself beside @Barish empty Jeep – he was 200m back at the dune where the 2 cars were stuck in the soft stuff! eventually both cars were recovered successfully, and we regrouped and continued the drive.
From here we left the unforgiving technical area and navigated through endless bushes, bumps and more soft sand patches but overall, less challenging terrain. With some nice climbs, crosses and arches in the clear areas @Barish was able to find amongst the bushy, bumpy areas – a good accessory to have would have been a kidney belt!
Towards the end of the drive we stopped by the lakes for a short break - @Mustafa wasn’t in our convoy so no watermelon for us (hint to Newbies for next drives) or note to self ha ha.
It was a great day to see so many of this newbie batch out enjoying the adventure, spotting some local wildlife and developing their skills for the future – huge thanks to @presa for organizing the drive and the support of @alshamsi_m @Barish @David @CARLOSS @Ehab and all my fellow intermediates who made the morning a success
To the hapless drivers that turned up late – please set your alarms earlier next time.
As the weather gets hotter the challenges increase – bring on EIB (eggs in the Basket) to learn more about this annual summer event be sure to read the past reports and videos online. Friday 13th is also pending.

Hi everyone!
Once all recommendations have been stated in the previous trip reports which I support them all, please allow me make this on a different way.
Oh mama! This was not a drive, this was a mix of an early morning boot camp and a traffic management course
…but let’s start from the beginning.
Drive organized by @presa with omnipresent @alshamsi_m and general @Barish managing the 2 convoys. I was assigned to Presa’s one with @David co-floating along with Founder Zeyad, @bobpavan , @Hisham and @Mostafa as interm.
Al Qudra playground is not any more the way used to be, now it looks like a greenery with plenty of bushes and hidden surprises.
The chain we challenged it became the worst nightmare for some of our newbie members…after the first 1 hour drive with no more than 500-600m completed, I lost the count of the number of stuck cars and second tries
. David and I ended up making an improvised “triage” system like in the emergency rooms: Those not making any noise and staying quiet were attended first while those making noises and wheels still spinning were attended afterwards.
I ended up parking my car and walking from one dune to another giving advice and helping on recoveries while relying on our interm members for making the pull. There was not time for getting back to the car as next customer was always waiting nearby.
And let’s not forget the traffic management with 4 members trying to resume all at the same time, all being parked in the wrong place (soft patch and car noises pointing up). Some reversing, some trying to move forward while getting stuck, etc. I felt like a security guy inside the Dubai mall gate at 10pm on Sat.
Jokes aside, it was a good practice for our newbie members, both legitimate and those found in the wrong meeting point. Soft and technical terrain for our newbie fellas quite different from nice & easy tracks and small arches and perfectly managed by Presa who gave them a masterclass.
See you soon.
Carlos

What a drive! It was one of the most demanding one for the support team. I felt bad seeing them hard at work under the hot sun.
Fortunately, Mustafa was there for the cold watermelon treat. It was such a nice one to have in the middle of Al Qudra hot sands. Thank you Mustafa!
I enjoyed the drive, though it was quite technical for such a long convoy. This meant we did not cover much distance. However, this kind of terrain is crucial for the learning experience. I look forward to more technical drives to boost confidence.
A few things to work on are radio comms and following distance in technical areas. As well as stopping position (so you are not bogged when convoy is ready to move)
Thanks to Marshal Danillo and support team for the excellent work. I know it was a tough morning recovering all of us. It was well managed given the difficulties. I am looking forward to the next drives after my holidays!

I started the day early morning as usual on trip day, we met at the meeting point and start the briefing by the organizer @presa, after that we were divided into two convoys.
Our convoy was leading by @Barish & looked after by Abu Salem @alshamsi_m and supported by our new explorer @Ehab and the rescue team @AhmadHasan & @Mpodroid.
The selected track was technical & challenging for the newbies but they perform well with little number of stuck.
@alshamsi_m gave me the chance to rescue one of the stuck cars under his full supervision.
Thanks @presa to allow me to join the trip to test my new car.
Thanks @alshamsi_m, @Barish, @Ehab, @AhmadHasan, @Mpodroid for the lovely trip.
See you all soon.

Oryx, Lakes and Dunes should be renamed to Oryx, Bushes and Dunes :)
This drive was definitely required for each one of us at all levels - mother nature offering teachings in several ways for each of the member who were part of this drive.
Unusual and different than regular drives. Mostly Technical!!
Trip Stats are as such:
15% Sand
35% Bushes
50% Stucks and recoveries.
Our Marshal @Presa - Humble yet unforgiving; decided to give hard time to every member of the drive; i.e. Newbies - getting stuck easily; Intermediates (myself and @moustafa) - helping pulls and recoveries; Explorers: over all support and running from one dune to another guiding the right path for newbies.
with stats being 50% stucks and every member of the drive being busy; only meant - New learning; Better Learning, lots of learning, learning, learning!! I Hope newbies enjoyed the learning process and I am sure, lot of them went home with a sense of satisfaction of learning something new during this drive.
Thank you @Presa! Awesome stuff.
